The teaching and research area Building with Existing Constructions and Building Construction researches historical buildings and building constructions with a focus on the period between 1870 and 1980.
This has two aims:
Building with existing structures is the order of the day. It is not only the technical issue of the stored grey energy of the existing building that speaks against demolition and new construction, but also the need for history that can be experienced. In order to be able to continue to utilise and further develop historical buildings, the existing building fabric must be handled safely and securely.
And we develop sustainable construction methods and designs for the building of tomorrow on the basis of constructions that have been tried and tested for centuries in some cases.
Teaching is part of research. Research is the basis for teaching.
